GENERAL COMMENTS: May 9, 2024
Our valley is about to see some much warmer temps. With highs in the 60s and 70s forecasted for this weekend and through the week, our trails will really start to dry out and open up. As of now, all Bellevue/Hailey trails will be great options to get out along with parts of Greenhorn. Ketchum/Sun Valley have some trails opening up-Adams Gulch and White Clouds would both be good option. Many trails will only be ready to be out and backs for now. If you encounter mud where you are leaving tracks or cannot pass through, please turn back. Be patient with our trails throughout the spring, before we know it everything will be opening and ready for use!
The recent winds brought down a number of trees. Wood River Trail Coalition moto volunteers have been clearing more trees from Greenhorn, Mahoney, Lodgepole, and Cow Creek trails. WRTC and Ketchum Ranger District report that upper part of Cow Creek is open to the meadow where the trail is still snow covered. The new Greenhorn reroute, Cow Horn, and Cow Creek Connector are all dry, though WRTC reports that the creek crossing on shortcut #930 is running pretty high, so out and backs are probably the best option for now. A trail user reports that Lodgepole to Cow Creek was riding well, though there is a small section of mud to tread lightly through.
Sun Valley Co. has reported that Lower River Run trail is open up to Sleeping Bear just past where it crosses Lower Olympic ski run. Bald Mountain Trail is open to the lookout, though you will need to go over a couple downed trees along the way. Trails crews are working to get these cut out soon. Proctor trail is open, but you will find a few patches of snow still remain on the trail. All White Cloud Trails are open except Big Wood Connector. There is a troublesome muddy section near the top. Users have been walking around the mud causing some trail widening. Please respect the closure until the trail has time to dry out to avoid further damage to the area.
All of Croy is open! On Two Dog between the upper junction with Centerline and to Bullion Road is clear now. A trail user has reported hero dirt on that section- so get it while it is good!

Many of our trails are not dry or ready for use yet. When you encounter extended sections of snow or mud, please use your best judgement and turn back if you cannot pass over the section without causing damage to the trail. Otherwise you will find mostly dry conditions.

As of 2023- West Fork Warm Springs Road is closed due to roadway instability, so once it drys out, Eve Gulch #146 Trail can only be used as an out-and-back at this time (no connection available to Warm Springs Road from Eve Gulch Trail).

REMARKS:
Many of the lower Greenhorn trails and dry. You will find some snow and muddy conditions where the trails move into trees and on some north facing aspects, especially as you go higher.
Wood River Trail Coalition reports that the WRTC's Greenhorn Improvements Project in collaboration with the USFS-KRD is going great! They have finished work on the new Greenhorn reroute and it is open. Be sure to check their home page for full details on the rest of phase 1 of the Greenhorn Improvement project.

REMARKS:
BLM's Silver Lining Trail is open. The 3.5 mile Hailey route can be used in either direction and makes a connection between the Toe of the Hill Trail near Keefer Park to the BCRD trails in Quigley Canyon. A loop of about 5.5 miles can be formed by using Toe, a portion of the Quigley Canyon loop, and the new Silver Lining Trail.

REMARKS:
The BLM has completed building a new 1.8-mile Belle trail and a new 0.4-mile Vue trail on the north side of Slaughterhouse Canyon in Bellevue in Fall 2023. These trails are dry and ready for use!
